Live Green, Work Green: Eco Awareness Day Wrap-up
Earlier this month Paramount Contractors & Developers sponsored its first annual Eco Awareness Day and we’d like to thank all of our tenants who showed up to support going green.
In case you missed the festivities, PCD invited companies like Enerlon, LADWP, Livingreen, Randy Jackson with a Tesla to come speak with our tenants in 6464 and 6565 about living and working in a green environment. Everyone who sported their little green thumb received a canvas PCD bag as well as Honeylocust and Baldcypruss trees that will be full grown shade trees. And just to up the ante a bit, we also had tenants riding around in the all electric Mini E and Tesla sport cars.
“It was a great turnout,” tells Vy Nguyen of PCD. Not only did our tenants learn about different ways to go green, but they also took home trees to plant in their yards and reusable bags they can be use for shopping.”
Those who attended the event received green tips about cutting down their electric bills, ways to get better MPG on their drive to work, and simple ways to recycle throughout the day both at home and at the office. But perhaps the greatest tip of all came from Tesla’s Randy Jackson who told us he spends only $91 on his monthly utility bill by using solar panels. “Just like owning your own house feels great, owning your own power system feels great too,” tells Randy. “I enjoy the feeling of independence for my own energy.”
And even more thrilling than Randy’s panel system on his house is that the energy also fuels his Tesla sports car, a car built from the ground up to be a high performance, futuristic, electric car. With no oil changes, spark plugs, gas filter or exhaust system, Randy’s electric car has proven 75 percent cheaper than the cost of gasoline per mile and requires barely any maintenance.

“This was our very first eco-awareness event, but we hope it will continue for years to come,” tells Vy. We are proud to be the front runners in the Hollywood community and we are happy to invite our tenants to be part of the global solution.”
Think before you act and keep in mind Livingreen’s top five tips for a greener workplace:
1. If you have to print something, use paper with at least 30% recycled content and, whenever possible, print documents on both sides of a page, which can cut your paper usage by 50%.
2. Bring a micro-fiber hand towel to work and take it with you whenever you wash your hands, so that you can dry them without using paper towels or an air hand dryer. Reasons why you should bring your own towel. – written by David Shaw
3. Whenever you plan on being away from your computer for a long time, instead of using a screen saver, turn your computer off, or at least put it in “sleep” or energy saver mode. Consolidate all electronics that can be periodically turned off onto one surge-protected power bar that can be turned off when you leave the office to save energy and reduce ‘ghost load’ power being charged to your bill.
4. Instead of driving alone to work, try to find someone to carpool with, or ride your bike or take public transportation. If you changed your routine of driving alone to work just one day a week you’ll cut your carbon emissions, and your gas usage, from commuting by as much as 20% (assuming a 5 day work week).
5. Instead of drinking water from a plastic cup or a plastic bottle, bring your own glass or stainless steel bottle and refill it throughout the day.
