PCD Blood Drive a Huge Success!

Jul 25, 2011

A few of the wonderful volunteer nurses who helped out.

Our annual blood drive more than exceeded expectations this year. Held on July 13, 2011, in the lobby of the 6464 Sunset building, our goal of 24 participants was surpassed when 34 donors showed up, providing approximately 31 units of life-saving plasma to some 93 patients, as each unit of blood can save up to 3 lives. Everyone involved is thrilled that the event was so successful and will impact so many people in a positive way. The blood drive is a valuable contribution to the community and everyone who volunteered to help is very much appreciated by the staff of PCD and the American Red Cross.

Towards the end of the day, one of the American Red Cross volunteers was overheard exclaiming, “We can’t take any more walk-ins because we are running out of supplies”.  Many tenants who had not signed up prior to the event came in spontaneously when they realized it was happening that day.

Bold Films’ Mark Svenningsen and Dexter Williams squeeze in time to donate blood. Bold Films' recent film “Drive” starring Ryan Gosling will be out by the end of 2011.

Mark Svenningsen said he decided to donate due to the ease of having it right in our building. He was gratified to have the opportunity to help out the community in some small way and the convenience of it being held at the building in which he works made it a no brainer. Dexter Williams of Bold Films said that even though he hates needles it felt good to know he did something positive, and besides he got sweet treats! Both would definitely do it again.

Everyone at PCD would like to thank all who volunteered or donated blood to this important cause.
